What's Neighborhood Church?

"For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them"
- Matthew 18:20 -

On the second Sunday of every month, all our people gather in a home within the neighborhood they live to be Church together. We’d love for you to join; it is an amazing experience!

What to expect in a typical Neighborhood Church Gathering:

  • You’ll find the home that is hosting church in your neighborhood for the upcoming month. Neighborhood church starts at 10 a.m. with a potluck-style brunch; when you register, you can sign up to bring some food or drink of your choice.
  • Typically, the first 30-45 minutes will be spent eating brunch and hanging out with each other. People will be excited to get to know you!
  • After that, one of the leaders will welcome everyone, maybe give a few updates or announcements, and then queue up the message. At that point, the kids will go into their kid’s ministry area within the home. Every Neighborhood Church watches the same message that was pre-recorded earlier that week.
  • After the message, there will be a time of discussion based on the teaching and maybe a time of prayer or just a closing prayer. Then, people hang out more or head home.

Why do we do Neighborhood Church?

  • To follow Jesus well. As a church, we’re compelled by Jesus' words and actions in all we do. We see in scripture how central community was to Jesus’ way of life. Those who were disciples of Jesus lived in close community with each other. Doing church in homes together on Sunday has helped so many foster a depth of community that is unusual but fantastic. It helps us take steps towards living more like Jesus calls us to live.
  • To tap into an ancient and effective church tradition. Church history shows a direct connection between the flourishing of the church and the habit of meeting together in homes on Sunday. The Early Church, soon after Jesus ascended into heaven, grew rapidly by meeting primarily in homes for its services. There is power in the vulnerability and closeness that gathering in homes creates; it’s truly transformative.
  • To better connect our Neighbors to Jesus. Bringing church into our neighborhoods exposes our neighbors to the beauty of our church community. Many of our neighbors are desperate for the type of community Jesus designed all of us to live in. By gathering in our neighborhood one Sunday a month, our community is more present and visible in the mission fields that God has called each of us to. This also helps us serve our neighborhoods better than we ever have.
